The local Osterregatta took place 7-8 April on Lake Thun, attracting sailing enthusiasts and spectators from Switzerland and Germany. Seven boats participated in this friendly competition, displaying their skills and expertise in a series of captivating races.
The event commenced on Friday, with three races scheduled for the first day. Despite the rainy and calm conditions as sailors left the harbour, the wind picked up from the west just in time for the races.
Throughout the day, the races took place in wind ranging from 1 to 3 Beaufort, allowing for fair and enjoyable sailing conditions. Although the wind had significantly decreased by the end of the day, all three races were completed under fair conditions.
Saturday morning started off beautifully, but sailors had to wait for the wind to pick up. By the afternoon, cloud cover brought a light breeze from the west, ranging between 1 and 2 Beaufort. This allowed the participants to complete two more races, resulting in a total of five valid races for the regatta.
The competition was intense, with Caracole (Bernard Haissly, Nicolas Berthoud, Daniel Stampfli) emerging victorious with a one-point lead over MFXXII (Jürg Menzi,
Andreas Honegger, Christof Wilke). Third and fourth places were also closely contested, separated by just one point.
The Osterregatta on Lake Thun showcased not only the talent and skill of the local sailors but also the camaraderie and sportsmanship that the sailing community is known for.
