The German 5.5m Class Association has on the first October weekend been racing the last of their 4 key regattas in 2019, on the Alster Lake in Hamburg.
Hosted by the NRV, next to local Evolution boats the Members enjoyed the first time reappearance of 5.5 GER 17 "Sünnschien", after a thorough restoration process. This was the German Olympic boat in 1968 in Acapulco, raced by Rudolf Harmstorf back then, who also initiated our annual autumn regatta, donating the perpetual trophies and supporting the Class Association in its growing phase back in 2007.
Despite an early rain spell, then sailors enjoyed sunshine & perfect wind conditions. On the water also Starboats & Dragons joined the event.
This years' edition has been won by 5.5 GER 30 "Criollo" & Crew, followed by GER 102 and GER 25. GER 17 has been given the Classic perpetual trophy and has informed about participation in the 2020 5.5mR regattas in Germany - and in Austria.
