The 5.5 Metre World Championship 2016 victory was claimed by Norwegian team, Kristian Nergaard, Johan Barne and Trond Solli Sæther.
The regatta was hosted by the Kongelig Dansk Yachtclub (KDY), the oldest yacht club in Denmark celebrating its 150-year anniversary
35 boats and crews representing 10 nations made the trip to Copenhagen for the festivities and to participate in very competitive races.
After five days of racing and eight races, Nergaard and his crew sailing ‘Artemis XIV’ take home the gold with a total of 24 points. Second place and silver goes to Danish boat ‘Arnold P’ helmed by Bo Selko with 31 points and bronze is captured by ’John B', Gavin McKinney from the Bahamas and his nordic crew with 35 points after a brilliant first place in the last race.
A very tight competition!
For Kristian Nergaard, this is the eighth World Championship Title in 5.5m over the past 23 years!
Italian boat ‘Tara’ finishing 25th overall wins the Classic division and German boat ‘Ali Baba’ finishing in 16th position overall wins the Evolution division.
Last week, the prestigious Scandinavian Gold Cup, a one boat per nation trophy, was won by Danish team of Bo Selko sailing with Rasmus Knude and Mikael Petersen.
Mariacristina Rapisardi, Giovanni Arrivabene and Marco Bonzanigo representing Italy won the Royal Kaag Classic Cup and Swedish team of Bernhard Rost, Rients van der Woude and Niklas Jansson won the Hankø Evolution Cup.
