The Royal Danish Yacht Club (KDY) has published the Notice of Race for the 5.5m Worlds 2016.
The Class is after 50 years returning to Oeresund waters in the second half of August, the harbour will again be Skovshoved, just North of Copenhagen. As back then, also for this Championship a newly built Danish 5.5m boat will be going for the title, 5.5 DEN 16 "Mia" is presently in its final stages. From neighbouring Sweden 5.5 SWE 66 "Wasa V" will enlarge the design variety within the range of recently developed 5.5m Modern boats.
All information about the event and the registration link can be found on the official event website:
Bound into a Metre-Class gathering, joining our Class with 6mR, 8mR and 12mR boats during the first week - on separate race courses - the 5.5's will then have the local waters for themselves, racing the World Championship in the second week. As an example of long lasting connection to the Class, one Jury member will be Robin Aisher, multiple Olympic 5.5m participant and World's bronce winner in 1966.
The whole event will be supported by the Wessel & Vett foundation, for which we are truly thankful. Those who enjoyed the "test-run" last September, can let their sailor friends know, why the particular athmosphere of racing & festivities along the Oeresund shores is making travels to Northern Europe very much worthwhile.
The KDY team is during this anniversary year (150 years KDY) looking forward to be meeting many 5.5m owners & their crews in August.
