Promote It!

This year, the promotion season for 5.5m boats in Europe started with the hanseboat boat show in Hamburg, Northern Germany. On display was 5.5 GER 42 "4 fun 2”, an excellent Schmidt/Wilke allrounder, which in future will sail out of Kiel and in various International 5.5m race events.

Heineken Regatta Curacao 2010

Amazingly enough, three 5.5 found their way to the crystal clear waters of the Southern Caribbean Sea and particularly of the Dutch Island of Curacao where they proudly participated in the 2010 edition of the Heineken Regatta back in November.

Change at the helm of 2 of the National 5.5 Class Associations

NEWS from Australia:

"...At the recent AGM held at the Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron, long serving President of the Association, Colin Ryan advised the meeting of his intention not to stand for the coming year. As a result, David De Coster was elected unopposed as President with Mark Lutowski as Vice President whilst Mark Hunter remains as Treasurer and Julia Owens as Secretary.

The 5.5 Association would like to thank Colin Ryan for his outstanding contribution to the growth of the class in Australia and delighted that it is his intention to remain involved in the class in a sailing capacity.

The Australian Nationals for 2011 will be held on Thursday 17th March and Friday 18th March at Vaucluse Yacht Club, Sydney Australia. A fleet of 10-13 yachts are expected to compete for the Australian Gold and Silver Cup’s.

Alberto will continue to be a member of the Technical Comittee and will continue to be sailing "Grifone", also in International 5.5m regattas.

A fleet of thirty boats gathered on Lake Garda from 6 to 10 of September to compete in the 2010 5.5 Metre World Championship.
The Race Committee of Circolo Vela Torbole did an excellent job in staging the seven races that were on the schedules. Winds conditions and ambience were fantastic.
