Juerg Menzi and team Daniel Stampfli, Juerg Christen win the World championship for the second time !

Race 5 & 6
Wednesday 2nd of August, sunny, warm with breeze building up to force 5.
First race is won by Juerg Menzi (SUI 201), this also gives him the final victory for the second time after last years win in Torbole.
Magellan skippered by Ambroise Johnson leads the last race and takes the gun with crew Anouk Ferario and Fred Fischlin. Excellent
sailing conditions but lots of wind shifts as usual...
Race 5 & 6 Postponed due to no winds on thuesday !
Race 4:
Monday July 31, sunny, warm, light breeze southerly, start took place at 1 pm sharp. Big wind shift to the right just after the start, Marie-Françoise 14, Pungin and Magellan
lead the fleet, the three swiss boats will stay in this order until the finishing line. Lots of shouting at the finish between JohnB once again and
(BAH 17) and Kandoo (FIN 44) the case is brought up in front of the jury. (see results below)
Race 3:
Sunday July 30, cloudy, winds 2-3 beaufort same direction. There was one false start again. This time another swiss sailor from Thun took the lead and actual winner of the Dutch Open, Hans-Peter Schmid. This time it was Piet van Oopzeeland NED 12 Topaze who was disqualified for being OCS. There where many protest flag raised during the race.
Overall leader after three races and before the protests is Marie-Françoise 14 from Switzerland. Hans Nadorp with 4 and 6 place is first Dutch boat.
Race 2:
Sunday July 30, cloudy, winds 1-3 beaufort westerly. After two false start the fleet was able at 12.30. Some 6 boats where OCS. Juerg Menzi and his crew Daniel Stampfli and Juerg Christen got the gun again.
Race 1:
Saturday July 29 , partly cloudy, winds 1-2 bf. The winds came in late and the race was delayed until 2.30 pm. but eventually the racing committee was able to give a start with a force 1 breeze which grew slightly stronger by the end of the race.
The swiss team are already in the lead as SUI 201 Marie-Françoise 14 and SUI 189 Pungin are first and second, third is the Bahamian
Gold Cup winner BAH 17 John B once again.
On 14th place we find the first classic boat which is NED 8 Vinga with crew: Niek Hoek / W.Stoutenbek/ M. Stoutenbek.
34 boats from Switzerland, Holland, Bahamas, Finland , Germany and Britain are competing for this world championship.
After the race the 5.5 class held its General Annual Meeting at the the clubhouse. It was decided to have three fleets : Modern, Evolution
and Classic all starting at the same time. There is also no limitation on sails for the Classic fleet. Hiking with a west is authorized for the
helmsman. The worlds will be held in Finland / Hangö in 2002. Tomi Sprecher from Switzerland was reelected president of the class.
